Meet Nexus Mutual

EECU Limited began trading as Nexus Mutual on 31 January 2017 as a result of a 12 month long brand review, driven by our 5 year strategic plan to increase our relevance among the ExxonMobil community. For more detail on the rebrand to Nexus Mutual, please read the FAQ's below.

Why are you changing the brand?

Our research told us that the 'EECU brand' had a strong history with Esso, but didn't resonate with the entire community we serve today – all ExxonMobil Group employees, contractors and their families, past and present. We exist solely for the ExxonMobil community, and are committed to being able to provide tailored financial solutions to our entire membership base. Updating our brand is an investment that will help us better connect with our community and allow us to remain relevant for our members now and in the future.

Our transformation to Nexus Mutual allows us to better tell our story and articulate how we can compete on service, relationships, products and value. And as a result, help put us front of mind with both members and non-members when they are seeking a specialist to help improve their financial wellbeing. It also encourages our team to be motivated, engaged and inspired to work for an organisation that is purpose driven and member-focussed.

When does this take effect?

EECU will be known as Nexus Mutual from 31 January 2017.

Why now?

Our strategy is focussed around growth, scale and financial sustainability. We will be building stronger and deeper connections with our existing members and creating relationships with new members of the ExxonMobil community. Combined with an increasingly competitive financial services market and the rise of Fintech, it becomes imperative that we shape our organisation – and brand – for the future ahead of us.

What's changing and how will it impact me?

Fundamentally, not much will change at all. We are the same organisation, with the same people, products and services you've come to know and trust.

The biggest difference you'll notice is our online presence. Our new website is designed to be intuitive and is full of engaging information relevant to you. Best of all, this state-of-the-art website will allow us to quickly and easily roll out new technology to our members. 

Will my bank account details change?

No. All of your bank account details with us remain unchanged. You can continue to use your current cards and chequebooks until they are due for renewal.

How do I access Internet Banking?

To access Internet Banking from 31 January 2017 you can go directly to https://digital.nexusmutual.com.au or click on the 'Login' button on the top right hand side of nexusmutual.com.au. Aside from basic aesthetic changes, the functionality of Internet Banking remains unchanged.

Should you visit digital.eecu.com.au or eecu.com.au on or after 31 January, you will automatically be redirected to our new site.

Do I need to do anything?

No. We will contact you directly should there be any change that will impact you. However, if you have any EECU URL's bookmarked in your favourites or email addresses saved in your address book, please ensure you update them.

What does Nexus Mutual mean?

A 'Nexus' is a relationship or connection between people or things. It is also a central, or focal, point. It speaks to Our Purpose (to enhance the financial prosperity of our members – now and into the future) and Our Vision (to be the banking partner of choice for our members and the broader ExxonMobil community). 'Nexus' is the vehicle that allows us to better connect with our members, and places our members and their needs at the centre of everything we do.

We believe it is more appropriate to refer to ourselves as a 'Mutual' because it better reflects the relationship between the organisation and our members – that we are member-owned, therefore we exist to benefit one another. To become better together – stronger together. We also believe the term represents our organisation as a more collaborative, member-centric financial services organisation.

Are you still a credit union?

Yes, we are still a credit union. Nexus Mutual, a trading name of EECU Limited, remains 100% member owned, and exists solely to serve ExxonMobil employees, long term contractors and their families in Australia.

Were you taken over by another financial institution?

No. Simply put, Nexus Mutual is the new trading name of EECU Limited.

Who was involved in the decision making?

The Marketing team developed this brand during the latter half of 2016, with the support of the CEO and Leadership team. In that time, we worked with established market research and branding agencies, as well as a panel of members and non-members, to help us determine how to develop a brand that reflects who we are and what we do. The Nexus Mutual brand and name was approved by the Board of Directors in November 2016.

Has the bond (membership eligibility) changed?

No. Membership remains open to employees or long term contractors to companies within the ExxonMobil Group and their families only.

Are your contact details the same?

Yes. You can still contact us on 1300 65 33 28 (and our local direct lines remain unchanged). From 31 January, our email addresses will change from name@eecu.com.au to name@nexusmutual.com.au, however, all emails sent to EECU email addresses will be automatically redirected for an extended period of time.
